The European Commission and the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council are jointly organising a conference for school leaders to discuss how schools can best benefit from European co-operation by making it part of their school development strategy. Conference participants will explore the role of school leaders in European school co-operation and ways in which EU programmes such as Comenius can support schools in developing an international strategy. They will also look at how EU-supported projects and eTwinning can effectively contribute to tackling current challenges for schools.

Attendance to this event is by invitation only, and most participants will be school leaders with an experience in Comenius partnerships or eTwinning.

Thematic workshops will look at the possibilities for schools to work together with partners in Europe as part of their own strategic development. In this context, they will focus on the role of the school leader, teachers’ professional development, motivating pupils and the profile and community links of schools.

12 Comenius projects will present themselves in an exhibition at the conference and will serve as examples in workshop discussions.

Comenius is the EU's main support scheme for school education. As part of the Lifelong Learning Programme, it offers opportunities to schools, teachers and pupils at all levels of school education, from pre-school and primary to secondary schools.

Grants are available for partnership projects between schools in different European countries and for professional development of staff. Through eTwinning, the EU supports a growing community of schools in Europe. From 2014, EU support to schools will be part of the new Erasmus+ programme.
